This is a new forum for all of our Shelter and Foster volunteers to share their experiences and to find rides to and from the shelter.  Hopefully you can learn from each other and keep connected with this media. Thanks for helping us and the animals in need in our Territory. You are truly making a difference for our shelter animals and saving a life each and every time you take in an animal to foster. This is also a place where adopters can find out more about their new pet from the you the volunteers who have cared for them. Thanks again ~ nicole

My husband and I fostered Cargo for 2 weeks before he went to Vancouver. It was our first time fostering and our first time with a puppy. We had such a fun time caring for this little dog. He was so energetic, gentle and cuddly. As he started to gain weight and settle in, his mischeviousness, goofiness and playfulness started to show. We would have loved to have kept this guy but our work schedules changed and don't allow for a puppy right now. I'm hoping to be able to foster again in the summer. What a great experience. I highly recommend it. Dana and Jennifer were a great help too during our first foster experience. Thanks NWTSPCA!

We were able to help NWTSPCA with the rehoming of Layla and Spruce. What great dogs..Layla is now living in Kamloops and is doing very well..and Spruce is now called Shiloh and he is in Kelowna..

Wow! Layla will have to adjust to the +40C for sure! I moved to Kamloops from Yellowknife 3 years ago and my Dettah Dog, Karma, still finds it a little warm for a sled dog..but her pool helps in the summer!

Nice to hear happy tails!!!

Hello Aube. Hope all is well. We are currently looking to foster a dog so I was checking around the sites to see what is available and saw your name. All the best.

I started fostering about a year ago. What a wonderful experience it can be. Don't get me wrong it's not all puppy kisses and cuddles. There's the odd bit of accidents house training. Turf wars over toys, some shredding etc. The joy of seeing a homeless unwanted discarded pet going to the home of good loving folks makes the bad moments, happy memories. I've fallen in love with all of them, often texting Nicole to say. Ok I'm keeping this one for sure.

I did adopt my last foster, what a great dog she is, gets along well with my other pets. Now that she is settled in. I'm open to short term fosters. If you think you might like a pet fostering is a perfect way to see if one is right for you. Don't forget most cases hopefully were talking a 10-15 yr commitment so take some time to think about it.

Wigglet is coming along. She has a housemate as of Sunday afternoon. I thought she'd be thrilled but she doesn't seem to interested. Her housemate is pretty tiny (only 4.5lbs compared to Wigglet's 15lbs) so that might be why. She investigated the new comer and promptly used her as an extra cushion in her kennel. Needless to say, while I'm at work, they bunk separately. What is new is Wigglet's new found interest in food. She is now eating with a purpose. I suspect that it's the perceived competition from the new pup. She's doing fine with her house training...better at night than during the day. It may be me that isn't paying attention. She's such a bear of a dog. She just ambles along with no great urgency and falls asleep almost immediately upon being picked up or sat with. She is so soft...like silk. Wigglet is definitely not an athlete but will give any couch potato a run for their money. She's quiet and calm and just wants to be with you.

Hey Dana,
These puppies came from my dogs, and wigglette by far made my day/night amazing she was under weight with me which conserened me, and really slow, but she has always been like that since birth. When I would get home all she would want is to be picked up and held by me, she would sit at the bottem of the couch and stare at me then she would sit in my lap while i played games or watched t.v.
I miss x10 and I'm glad she is doing better with you, I cried when i got home that evening cause I didnt really want anyone seeing me so sad for doing the right thing.
If it's not to much to ask for can you maybe send me pictures of her. I miss the way she used to walk towards me lol
she really was the sun shine in my day. they kept me super busy all 7.
It's a weird feeling in the house and the mom is super sad she was laying in their kennel the other night I had to pull her out and give her cuddles.

But I hope to hear from you soon

xoxox Dayna can you give wigglett a big ol hug and kisses from me :)

have a great day

Hey Dayna,
I have passed on the hugs and kisses to Wigglette. Not hard to do as you know she loves to be loved. She had a vet visit today and all seems to be okay. No parvo which was a big relief. I guess maybe she was just overwhelmed with her very active siblings and didn't get enough to eat from mom. She's a bit thin but has found her appetite. The vet put her on a special diet to help with her nutrition so I think it's all good from here. She's getting along with her new little buddy and is very gentle with her. I think Wig knows that she has to be careful with her. She loves my dogs and follows all of their rules. Don't feel bad about giving her up...by doing so you've allowed other people a chance to get to know and love her as well. She's going to find a wonderful home and have an amazing life.

I'm so happy to hear they didn't have parvo. Yah when they were a couple weeks old, I had to bottle feed her a little to get a little extra in her she kept getting pushed off by her bigger sibblings she used to fit in my tiny palm and my hands are not that big at all. I was really worried and stayed home and took 2 days off work for them I wanted them to all be better. I know you guys will find her the best home ever :)
Is she still doing good on her training, I was starting to house break them, and slowly kennel training them. They were doing great in the kennels, and knew it was bed time when they were in there.

But I'm happy she is happy and hope to hear more stories about her soon. She deffenilty has a big spot in my heart, they all did and always will.

Thank you

So Wiglette loves to go outside. She was doing the bear slide last night on the deck. She runs down the three steps and does a couple of strides before she throws her front feet out and belly slides until she stops. Hilarious!! She did that a few times before being distracted by a stick. She goes out until her feet get cold, comes in and warms up and goes right back out. She likes to put her head in the snow and snuffle around. She's starting to play more with my big dogs and even tries to scoop up bones as she runs by them. Sometimes she gets them and sometimes she misses. She's still very cuddly and likes to be close when she goes to sleep. She gets to hot and usually ends up stretched out on the floor by the door. Such a good girl with her house training. She'll run to the door when I say "outside" and she'll let me know when she needs to go out.

Hey Dana,
Sorry I didn't reply sooner. I heard from a little bird that Wigglett got adopted out there :) One of my friends was telling me that her co-worker was adopting a puppy named Wigglett and thought it might be one of mine. I was so happy to hear that three out of the 7 have been adpoted out. I hope that Bear Boomer Delilah, and Mavrick have all gotten adopted out as well. It would be nice to know :)
Do you still have her or is she with her new family now ?
Do you have any recent picture's ? She was such a beautiful baby !
I hope you have a great day. Hope to hear from you soon

Hey Dayna! Yes, Wig has been adopted...she was in a crate ready to be transferred to the south when one of the guys at the airport asked if it was the pup in the paper and then he got on the phone...got off the phone and said the pup is staying. I had been down this road before and the adoption fell through so I decided right then and there that if Wig was not adopted by this family then she would stay with me. She was a really great fit for my family and I had grown to love her to pieces...how can you not? Long story short her adoption didn't fall through and she is now living with her new family. Such a lucky family to get such a great dog. You did a good job with her. She is a gentle soul with a big heart and I'm sure she'll grow up into a fine dog. I'm glad she was mine for a little while.

Hey Dayna,

I spoke with Nicole and as far as she knows all the pups have found homes except for Delilah...she's still learning her manners but not to worry she is in excellent hands and is very comfortable and well cared for. Congratulations on getting mama spayed!! That must be a great weight off your mind. I'll let you know about Delilah when I hear something. Have a great day and give your dog a hug from me.

Hey Dana,
It's been almost a month, I got so busy with year and month end. I gave babe a big hug for you and our two other boys :) Getting them all fixed was the best idea, cause if our boys get loose I don't have to worry to much about them getting stuck.
That's wonderful news they all got adopted, and that sweet miss Delilah she was pretty bossy when we had her I started feeding her in the living room kinda away from the others cause she was kinda food bossy. Well I know she is in amazing hands or was has she been adopted out yet ? and do you have any updated picture's ?

I also have another questions for the foster families there. I recently just sent out a 6-7 month old shepard lab cross named Misty, the family who had her here was wondering if you guys had any info on her I don't see her on the page anymore and was wondering if she was adopted out as well.

Well I hope you have an amazing week :)

talk to you soon
