Our Shelter History:

Picture

Our shelter is 3200 sq ft. with the capacity to hold 30 indoor dogs and 10 "northern husky dogs" in outdoor insulated kennels with houses and 2 dog runs. The facility has the capacity to hold 10 cats as well.  The building will be as environmentally friendly as possible and will be operated by committed volunteers.  We are also hoping that we can have one full time employee.  Please see shelter details to the bottom right of this page.

UPDATE
We had our Ground Breaking Ceremony on October 23, 2011. It was a huge success and many people showed up to give their support. There were also several of our foster puppies and past adoptees present!!!  In attendance was our Board, Clark Builders, Becca Kroeger and Justin Hazenberg -architectural designer and engineer, Mayor Gordon Van Tighem, and many volunteers, council members and community supporters.  It was a great ceremony. Phase one is complete!

We have found about $146,000 savings from our original total for the shelter through modifying the design slightly and also through inkind donations. We have also had great support from companies and individuals in the NWT and other provinces. Our new cost of the shelter is now $745,594.00

PHASE 2  HAS BEGUN!    Phase 2 involves completing the Shell of the facility including roof, windows and interior/exterior walls, as well as the boiler system and some electrical.

Our team is working diligently to have the shelter up by the new year. To date, we have over $200,000 in contributions from local companies and suppliers involved with the construction process. The NWT SPCA Board and volunteers are continuing with fundraising events as well but ultimately we do not have enough money for Phase 3.

New Sponsorship Initiative

Yellowknife is known as a very generous city, contributing millions of dollars to organization in need.  We are counting on this generosity of businesses and the public to help us achieve our goals.

To help us raise funds to complete the construction of the SPCA Northern Animal Shelter, a company or group of individuals can help us by sponsoring a special Dog Apartment or Cat Condo. For $10,000 there is an opportunity to have your name prominently displayed "furever" above a Dog Apartment and for $5,000 above a "cat condo". This display will be visible for all people visiting the shelter to see. That all the people that will visit for the life of the shelter- that's years. This lifetime sponsorship will help us complete the construction portion of the new SPCA shelter today! Sponsorship packages is available for download on this page.

PLEASE NOTE THERE ARE ONLY 18 DOG KENNELS AND no CAT CONDOS AVAILABLE FOR LIFETIME SPONSORSHIP. All other donations will be displayed on our Wall of Heroes.

Our new Shelter Campaign,  will hopefully get us to our NEW goal of $745,600.  We need $85,000 more!  We are confident we can do this with your help. Please check out our events page for other ways you can donate to the cause!

Stay tuned for more details as they unfold. And THANK YOU all for your support !!!!
